Project Space Neun Kelche
Neun Kelche is a project space curated by Kira Dell and Laura Seidel, located at Pasedagplatz in Berlin-Weißensee. In May 2024, artist Neda Naujokaitė joined the team in the roles of press and public relations and as an assistant curator.
Since early 2021, Neun Kelche has provided a space for local artists to meet and exchange. The programs are shaped by a diverse range of both local community and neighborhood conversations, as well as international collaborations. Neun Kelche primarily works with FLINTA* artists. Through solo and duo exhibitions, site-specific installations are created, which are expanded performatively or with film, video, or sound.
The curatorial work of Kira Dell and Laura Seidel is grounded in a power-critical and intersectional perspective. Their thematic focus includes utopian visions of planetary coexistence between human and non-human agents, concepts of collective love, societal perspectives on parenthood, and the agency of artistic materials. Rather than adhering to a rigid curatorial program, they seek thematic intersections with artists through collaborative negotiations and in-depth studio visits, through which exhibitions are co-developed. The Neun Kelche team critically examines the working structures within the art industry, and conversations around financial transparency are a crucial part of our project planning, rather than limiting them. Through long-term collaboration with project partners, Neun Kelche as an initiative aims to counteract the fast-paced working conditions of the art industry.
ARTISTIC DIRECTION?
Laura Seidel und Kira Dell sind Gründerinnen und Leiterinnen vom Projektraum Neun Kelche. Beide sind freiberuflich als Kuratorinnen und Kunstvermittlerinnen tätig, seit Anfang 2018 vorrangig als kollaboratives Duo.
Kira Dell ist Kunsthistorikerin; Studium Kunst- und Bildgeschichte sowie Kulturanthropologie an der Universität Hamburg, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und EHESS, Paris. Seit 2010 tätig als freie Kunstvermittlerin, u. a. in den Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, in der Hamburger Kunsthalle und in der Deutsche Bank Kunsthalle, Berlin. Von September 2016 bis April 2021 war Kira Dell beim Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt tätig, ab Juni 2018 in der Rolle der Projektkoordinatorin. Seit 2022 ist sie Projektmanagerin bei Das NETTZ gGmbH, einer Vernetzungsstelle gegen Hassrede und Desinformation. Seit 2016 realisiert sie als freie Dozentin Seminare und Workshops an unterschiedlichen Kunsthochschulen und Bildungseinrichtungen, wie dem bbk Bildungswerk, Kreativ Kultur Berlin oder an der Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle. Zudem ist Kira Dell seit 2016 als freie Kuratorin tätig und betreibt gemeinsam mit Laura Seidel seit April 2021 den Projektraum Neun Kelche in Berlin-Weißensee. Ihre Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen auf kollaborativem Kuratieren, planetaren Perspektiven, künstlerischen Arbeitsverhältnissen und Selbstentwürfen sowie feministischen und performativen Strategien in der zeitgenössischen Kunst. Kira Dell hat eine Tochter.
Laura Seidel ist Kuratorin und Kunstvermittlerin. Sie studierte Kulturanthropologie und Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Hamburg und an der Freien Universität Berlin. Seit 2015 ist sie als freie Kunstvermittlerin tätig, u.a. in den KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, in der Julia Stoschek Collection, Berlin, und DAS MINSK, Potsdam. Von 2019 bis 2022 moderierte sie die monatliche Gesprächsreihe Shell we Talk? im Zentrum für Aktuelle Kunst, Berlin. Von 2017 bis 2019 verantwortete sie die Kommunikation und Textproduktion des Künstlerstudios Julius von Bismarck. Im Anschluss arbeitete sie von 2019 bis 2020 als direktoriale Assistenz und Supervisorin in der Julia Stoschek Collection Berlin. Sie kehrte 2022 zurück in das Studio Julius von Bismarck und leitet dieses seit 2023. Gemeinsam mit Kira Dell arbeitet Laura Seidel seit 2018 als kuratorisches Duo und setzt kollaborativ Ausstellungen an wechselnden Orten um. Seit April 2021 betreiben sie gemeinsam den Projektraum Neun Kelche in Berlin Weißensee. Zudem ist Laura Seidel seit 2020 Mitglied und Kuratorin des Kollektivs CCCCCOMA Berlin. In ihrer kuratorischen Praxis fokussiert Laura Seidel die Zusammenarbeit mit FLINTA Künstler:innen, Arbeitsstrukturen des Kunstbetriebs, planetare Perspektiven und intersektionale Ansätze in der zeitgenössischen Kunst.
TEAM
Artist Neda Naujokaitė joined the team of Neun Kelche at the start of May 2024. At the project space, her primary responsibilities include press, media management, and communication. She studied at Vilnius Art Academy 2019 - 2023 and did an Erasmus exchange in ArtEZ University of the Arts (BEAR program) in the Netherlands, 2021-2022. Neda paints and works with video and sound. She's interested in visualizing static and dynamic, inside and outside, personal and impersonal motifs. The works contrast between reflections of trees or clouds on the surface of cars, the light coming through the window of her childhood’s home, and non-places like roads, and highways. She is particularly interested in how certain visual fragments can evoke memories of past or specific places. The topics of resemblance and class, the complex interplay between personal and co-human experiences are the main focus of Neda's work. Neda has exhibited her work in group exhibitions and projects since 2016. In 2023, she held her first solo exhibition at VDA Gallery Akademija. She graduated with a show Inside/Outside at Gallery VARTAI the same year.
